The Coy Could Feign by Steve Lehman (los laymen)

Could I gush out my love to you in words,

rain verbal cloudbursts of affection,

paint the sky with volcanoes of praise-

Would I woo you worldwide with factories of propaganda

rocket rainbows of flattery into your eyes

blast your brain with witty pearls-

Should I pound your eardrums with polyrhythmic thunder

dance dervish dreams from my tongue

like arrows through your heart…

Still,

I would never win more from you

than the fleeting joy of a child in pain;

nor should I cloud your saintly soul,

with all the pleas the coy could feign.
